Can a wedding fruit cake be iced with Buttercream?

Hello everyone,
I am doing a wedding cakes for a very demanding bride to be, and she has requested I do vanilla and a fruit cake, both to be iced with Buttercream.
Correct me if I am wrong , but I have told her fruit cake and Buttercream is a no no mixture, but she insists.
So I am asking is there any way around this or is it a possible task?
I was thinking maybe ice the fruit cake with marzipan and then put the Buttercream on top of it,
Any suggestions pls.

Fruitcake is never iced with buttercream.

If the bride wants buttercream on fruitcake, put in her contract, point it out to her and have her initial it clearly. Emphasize that the choice is her responsibility..

You could also say that seeing that it is such an unusual choice and no-one has ever chosen it, how thick does she want the icing .. Make a point , and let it go at that ..

Fruitcake is rich and the icing [Royal and sugarpaste] are formulated no the clash with the cake. The blandness of both emphasizes the sweet sumptuousness of fruitcake.

Make sure that her choice is very clearly stated in the contract ..

I have covered fruit cake in buttercream...no bleeding of the wines etc. I have a pic in my album a white square cake...rich Jamaican fruit cake loaded with wine...and no issues....before fondant that's what we used to cover cakes in Jamaica...no issues...

thank you for getting back to me. oh thats very interesting. wow. out of a million people ive asked your the first, well glad you saw my post. would you kindly share how u did your cake? did you cover it with marzipan and then put buttercream or just buttercream ontop of te cake?

no marzipan...i just used a nice stiff consistency...did you see the pic? I covered it just as I would a vanilla cake :)
