Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I have tried many different things to prevent cheating from getting in the way, but it keeps on happening. Even though we do have judges, I don't think it's fair that a cheater's cake should take one of the top ten cake spots, booting a cake out of the opportunity to be judged. So, from now on, without making a big fuss over the whole thing, if I think someone cheated, I'm not allowing that person's cake to be in the top ten cakes. Hopefully this is motivation enough for everyone to play fairly. Period. I don't want to keep revisiting this topic and to have people upset about unfairness.

I'm going to spell it out.....Contests are designed for member participation and member voting. When you advertise on your Facebook page or in any other way for your friends to become members for the sole purpose of voting for your cake it shows poor sportsmanship on your part. Please do not do this.
I really do not understand why people, FRIENDS on this site if you are, would want to cheat. Come on, people - friends don't do that to friends. No Cheating! Stay friends and share and be happy!
I guess I am so dumb I would never think of that!!! When I entered the first contest I said something at school about the contest and a couple co workers said send the link out and let all of us vote... I said no... it is for members of the cake site and people who are cake designers are the ones who vote. I just guess if you are that hard up to win that you would solicit votes... hmmm did you REALLY win or did you just get enough of your buddies to vote? I work with Middle School students and that is something I would expect of 12 & 13 year olds not grown adults. Makes me sad that people are that needy to win.
Bump!  We needed a reminder.
I agree, I think to vote you should have to have been a member for a preset period of time. Because this is suppose to be a contest between us cake people.
WOW, it's not like we are baking cakes for a million dollar prize or to be the next "Cake Boss"...why would you want to cheat....I have entered only once so far..purely for self satisfaction if anything...
Not only do we need a reminder but perhaps we need to have a gigantic banner on each contest each and every single time saying voting open for current CWB members only as of the DATE of the first day of the contest.

Yes, from now on I'll post all the rules on every contest. I think many people enter without reading the rules.

This is how I'm handling cheaters:

It happens with every contest. If I know someone cheated, I'm not going to make a big deal out of it. The person's cake just won't make the top ten cakes. If you believe you have been removed in error, then please feel free to contact me. But, we are pretty good at determining who cheats.

Other sites may not express any concern about cheating, but I feel it's important to have integrity in the voting process. If anyone can solicit votes to win, then the whole judging process becomes meaningless. It is also unfair to people who genuinely deserve to win.

I could solve the whole problem by eliminating voting altogether and allowing the judges to pick the winners. I allow everyone to vote for a few reasons. First, I feel people enjoy it and I encourage everyone's participation. Second, the job of judging is cumbersome if the judge has to go through hundreds of cake photos every month. So, I leave it up to our community to pick the top ten.

Even though a cheater is unlikely to win with the judges, a cheater's cake could deny a deserving cake from making the top ten and having the chance to be judged.

So, this is why we are diligent in removing the cakes of cheaters. If you feel our rules are too strict, then you should not enter your cake in our contests.

The site is a year old and no one has won more than once.

I stopped entering these because it appears that the same people win all the time. :-(

BUMP
I have reposted those cakes which you've featured in the photos to my facebook page as well as those of some other members who's cakes I liked.  I would hate for anyone to think I was trying to cheat, and certainly none of the other member's who's cakes I shared had any knowledge that I'd done so.
Just saw the contest pix and have a question. This site is kind of confusing, and I couldn't find the info about the buttercream contest. (except how to enter) Are the entered cakes supposed to be all buttercream? Many cakes in the contest gallery appear to have fondant decorations.
