Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I need to know how do you properly ship a cake?....Any advice would help, Thanks!

There are several conversations regarding this in the forums.  I think the general consensus is that it is extremely hard to ship a cake.

I know someone who ships quite often successfully.  She ships UPS ground.  Fondant, of course.

 

Now, I shipped overnight, and it imploded.  I'm going to try ground next time.

The best advice I've heard is to put it in a window cake box so the shipper can SEE what's inside.  They tend to handle it more gently that way.  There's a blog somewhere about this woman who mails cakes to her niece (?) every year via the post office, in a window cake box, and they always arrive intact.

 

Thank You Eileen...Someone wanted to know if I can ship them a cake to FLorida...I'll try that and see what happens..
