Can anyone give me an idea how to make this cake? Thanks.

It could be made by using a Wilton 3D Teddy Bear pan or use by stacking 6 or 8 inch (or whatever size you want) layers to the desired height, I am guessing four to five layers, and carving into the general shape of his body, almost like a minion.  His fur appears to have been piped with a round tip, but could be done with the grass or star tip.  Eyes, mouth ears, hand and feet look like gum paste, fondant or modeling chocolate.  Personally, I would use modeling chocolate because buttercream can soften gum paste with it's moisture.  I would shape his little parts and let them dry a couple of days before applying to the cake.  Hope this helps a little!

I agree with Goreti, they need support.  Considering the size of the ears and the weight, I would use a bamboo skewer or even a chop stick several inches long so as to get good purchase in the cake.  If you have ever worked with it, you might even consider wafer paper for it's lightness.

I just watched the video that Goreti shared and the use of three skewers per ear is an even better idea and will add stability.

I think so too and that was actually my first thought.  Then decided to see if there were other ideas out there and found the video.  I like to use bamboo skewers for things like that.  Always have some on hand.

Thanks everyone.  I had previously watched that same video.  Wafer paper is a really good idea. I just have to find some, but I do have bamboo skewers.  Now the question is, how do you charge for a cake like that?

I know everything depends upon where you live and your customer base, but I (personally) would not make this cake for less than $85.00 and I think that is conservative.

If you can't find Wafer paper, use coffee filter paper. I use it all the time to make flowers. Colour the coffee filter paper with food colour and alcohol using a paint brush. I dry mine in the micro at 30 sec intervals. Colour till I achieve what I want. Cut and shape the ears, and coat with plain old white glue. They will dry nice and hard. Glue a skewar or popsicle stick on the back of the ears. When dry, push ears into the cake. Hope this makes sense.

Wow, coffee filters sound like a good idea! I won't have to worry about them falling off!  I could make the rest out of fondant.

As far as the price, I was only thinking $25.00!  They have a budget of $30.00.  The area I live in doesn't pay much for cakes that aren't from a bakery.  Right now, I am only getting $40.00 for a 12x18 sheet cake. 

For Gizmo, I was thinking of two nine or eight inch layers with the ball pan on top, so it won't be very big.

I guess I should consider more the time it will take me to make this.  I don't think I would get more than #30.00 though. Maybe I should pass, I really have to think about this, but don't have much time.Thanks for all the advice from everyone! You guys are great!

A lot of my pricing depends upon whether or not I want to make the particular cake. $25 to $30 would cover your costs, barely, but you would gain experience and not much more. That being said, if you would enjoy the challenge, go for it. Remember Louise, your cakes are more than likely far superior to anything else available, especially at those prices.

I think your two 8" layers with a half ball on top would be about perfect...or even 6" layers with a half ball top.

Doesn't make sense to me why people think they should pay less for a home baker than a bakery.  I would not make this cake for $25.  Just not worth the amount of time you have to spend on it.  Never mind the cost of supplies.  I bake from scratch and it is amazing how much everything has gone up.  Hoping for another sale on butter soon.
