I have heard that you can just mix your regular gel colours with vodka to use in an airbrush.  Never had the courage to try it myself as I'm terrified of blocking the nozzle!

I just finished a Craftsy class on airbrushing and the instructor said the same thing, Katy.  She said you can use gel colors or dusts thinned with alcohol, but it is risky since the nozel is easily blocked.  She does not recommend using anything other than color made for the airbrush.

mmm - I certainly wouldn't risk using diluted dusts - way to much risk of a flek getting in the nozzle.  Those nozzles are really, really tiny!
