I'm always seeing this like ItS the staple basic cake for every thing. I don't think i've ever heard if or had a almond cake. Can anyone explain the idea of it?

Ebony, I'm assuming you have seen the WASC recipe. If not it's here - http://www.cakeswebake.com/forum/topics/original-wasc-white-almond

I would encourage you to try it. It is a wonderful recipe.
I don't have sour cream, can I use yogurt or buttermilk?

You can use yogurt but not buttermilk.

It's a really delicious, moist yet dense white cake. I've done it as is, with all vanilla and with all almond - no matter how I do it, it always comes out delicious! It is my favourite way to do a vanilla or an almond cake now! The scratch recipe on the site is also yummy :).
I have tried yogurt and it does not have the fat content that sour cream has so it will not be the same result. There are many variations of this recipe and you can do just about anything with it!
I'll just buy sour cream. I just know I've always hated white cake since it was so dry but you're saying it's not dry? I'll try it!

Yogurt (not the low fat ones) is all that I have ever used in this recipe, for I find I tolerate it easier then sour cream...lactose intolerent. I love the WASC recipe.

You can use yogurt if it is the regular plain..not fat free or low fat...try the Dannon brand...very rich and creamy....
Maybe the yogurt I used was the wrong kind but the cake was not as moist and dense as it is with the sour cream from when I tried it. I used a plain not fat free yogurt and just did not like the outcome... it is so funny how different people have different tastes!!!
