Just wondering how fast royal icing dries? I need to attach a wedding cake topper with it because it is tall and thin and not very stable. I want to wait until the cake is all set up at the site before attaching it but I am not sure if that will give the icing enough time to dry... It will be outside and about 90 degress.

Thanks!

Anyone??? I have never worked with royal icing before... I'm sure someone on here can tell me how fast it dries.... Please??
Heat and humididty are the bane of sugar...usually in my experience it sets up pretty fast...like 5 minutes...in an air conditioned room....Last Christmas I made some gingerbread houses and it had rained for 3 days in a row and was warm and humid...(I live in FL).....my houses imploded....it wasnt pretty plus I think my tears didnt help either...hehe...I had to turn on the A/C and then they set up...so in my experience heat and humididty arent gonna let the icing set well...maybe you should consider attaching it before you go...let it set up then subject it to heat...I am assuming you are covering the cake in fondant. A few well placed toothpicks pulled out at the last minute?
thank you! Thankfully the heat over here is very dry, no humidity! I think the toothpicks are a great idea! I'll try that! Thanks again!
Holly I know I am too late for this but I always put the topper on after I get there. Too much can happen in transport so I just take my royal icing bag and put the topper on after the cake is set up,.... hope all went well for you today... I assume it did since I did not get any phone calls!!! :-)
hmm why am i thinking ri and bc don't go togeather it melts the ri, or is it something else i'm thinking of
I use royal icing on fondant all the time and never have a problem. I believe you might be thinking about the grease in buttercream will break down the royal icing???
I officially got to work with royal icing tongith and make flowers , all i can say is Holy does it dry Fast and Hard WOw LOL
yes Royal icing doesn't go well with buttercream because of the fat in the buttercream. It is ok to use RI if it hardens first like flowers or lace filligree. Just dont refrigerate them both together.
